Callum Payne

Growing up in the big smoke and not knowing what he wanted to do out of highschool, Cal spent his first year of adulthood as a carpenter.

While changing lives one nail at a time, Cal was religiously listening to the radio and fell in love with the idea of talking for a living. As someone who is impulsive and decisive, Cal quickly made the switch to head to university and study communications at AUT. He got a part-time job at ZM as a brand ambassador and spent about a year there until he realised AUT wasn’t where he wanted to be studying. Cal was then accepted into the New Zealand Broadcasting School, so he packed his bags and headed off to Christchurch for two years.

After a successful two years in Broadcasting School, Cal got himself an internship at The Edge Radio Station and quickly moved from the Promotions Intern, to producing The Edge Drive Show and then eventually landing himself the role as Content Producer for The Edge Breakfast Show.

In mid-2023 Cal was given his shot at hosting his own show, and is now the nights host on The Edge.

Outside of his beloved career, Cal is an absolute nerd. He loves comic books, PlayStation, Star Wars and is absolutely obsessed with anything related to Marvel. Ask him - he’ll show you his Avengers tattoo! He also loves film, photography and spends a lot of his hard earned cash getting photos developed because he’s an ‘old soul’. Cal will also occasionally head out to the west coast and carve some barrels on his Marvel-coloured surfboard.

Cal is a bit of a social butterfly, he’s always surrounded by people and likes to be around like-minded personalities. He also lives with 4 of his best friends, so he’s constantly posting their antics and funny/relatable content on his Instagram story. As a firm believer in ‘everything happens for a reason’ Cal always finds the positive in a negative situation. He is creative, witty and has little to no shame. His friends would describe him as loud, fun and devilishly handsome.
