Vaughan Smith has worked in the radio industry since before podcasts were a thing that everyone had (so a very long time).
His name is synonymous with his long-time radio BFF Carl Fletcher and Hayley Sproull, with whom he lovingly shares the hosting duties for ZM's Breakfast Show.

His current post has seen the team net two ‘Best Network Breakfast Show’ awards at the New Zealand Radio Awards, and he is also part of the ZM team that has won two ‘Station of the Year’ awards. Before his post at ZM, Vaughan came from the then-top nationwide drive show on The Edge FM - taking out the ‘Best Non-Breakfast Show’ award at the NZ Radio Awards multiple times. Vaughan is a true creative, with bold ideas and the ability to turn them into reality. He thinks outside of the box - and his natural knack for shining the light on life's funny moments makes him a fabulous person to work with.

A permanent Team Leader on TVNZ2’s ‘Have You Been Paying Attention’, alongside Urzila Carlson and Hayley Sproull, Vaughan gets to flex his comedic chops weekly, honing his experience in TV projects like ‘Best Bits’, ‘Media Scraps’ and ‘7 Days’. He’s also a long-time voice artist collaborator with NZ animation house Mukpuddy, working on various animated series over the years.

Vaughan is infamous for his hilarious social content that he makes mostly with his two daughters and an array of farm animals, and his huge social following is a testament to that.

It's no surprise that Vaughan is also an exceptional public speaker and highly engaging MC who makes a night impossible to forget.
A skilled writer, Vaughan's pieces have been published on various online platforms. He also starred in the web series ‘Critic & the Pig’, where he and co-star Josh Thompson would review new eating establishments. And occasionally, you might find Vaughan entering colouring-in competitions under the name of his children in an attempt to win prizes.

Born and raised in the Waikato, he now lives in rural West Auckland with his wife, two daughters, two dogs, two rescue cats, two rescue goats, two non-rescued sheep with their two lambs, two other orphaned lambs, eight chickens and two VERY CUTE miniature highland cattle. It’s a regular Old McVaughany’s Farm.
He lives for the grassier side of life and enjoys taking his young family to his parent’s Waikato dairy farm or down to the in-laws in Raglan.

Funnily enough, his work emulates a dairy farmer's hours, waking up at 4am to tend to his ZM Breakfast show herd. He recently acquired his grandfather’s 1967 Series 2a Land Rover, so he’s learning the ins and outs of vintage vehicle restoration on the fly, thanks to YouTube. A Pisces (doesn’t believe in any of that) who was born in the Year of the Dog (only believes in that because it’s a cute animal the year he was born), and self-proclaimed eco-geek, Vaughan loves gardening, hobby farming, building, tinkering, family, travel and comedy.
