Adam's career began in the Black Caps as a fresh faced 19 year old in 1990 and spanned 12 years until his early retirement in 2003. Never far from the headlines he became an institution behind the stumps and an integral part of a highly successful side that grew into one of the best in the world in the late 90's.
One of the first to combine the lessons he learnt from his time in elite sport with degrees in Law and Finance and forge a successful career in business. Adam is Managing Director of Index Group Franchising which owns and operates multiple franchise systems in the Accounting, Rental Car and Mobile Food sectors in NZ, Australia, PNG and the USA. Across the Group they look after 120 franchisees and employ in excess of 400 staff.
Originally from Northland he is of Maori descent and has spent the past 4 years as the Chairman of Directors of the commercial interests of Te Roroa, managing interests in Farming, Forestry, Honey and Transport in Waipoua.
Outside of business he has a love of mountaineering which has seen him successfully summit Mt Manaslu (8516m) and Mt Everest (8848m) in the Himalaya and Aoraki Mt Cook here in NZ.
Recently, Adam has enjoyed his role as an Ambassador for Men’s Health Week - the product of having endured a harrowing 12-months in which he suffered from chronic stress. His story is a product of modern life and its pressures - both commercial and personal as he struggled to balance his own intense desire to succeed with the responsibilities of solo parenting and a rapidly growing business.
Adam's story is a truly unique one, one he tells with passion and a disarming frankness as he ties together the various strands and challenges that have confronted him and continue to do so.
